When is Bluestem Hunting Preserve open?

Our regular hunting season runs from October 1 through March 31. Depending on bird availability and weather conditions, hunts may occasionally be available into April. Contact us for current availability.

Is Bluestem a controlled shooting area?

Yes. Bluestem Hunting Preserve operates as a controlled shooting area in Kansas.

Do I need a hunting license?

Yes. All hunters are required to have a valid hunting license.

Is hunter orange required?

Hunter orange is not required, but we recommend wearing it while hunting for added visibility and safety.

What happens to the birds after a guided hunt?

Birds harvested during guided hunts will be cleaned and the meat packaged for hunters to take with them. Hunters will sign a carry slip before leaving with their birds.

What about bird cleaning on self-guided hunts?

Self-guided hunters may clean their own birds.

What guided hunt options are available?

Bluestem offers both half-day and full-day guided pheasant and quail hunts.

Half-day guided hunts are $210 per hunter and include either 4 pheasant or 10 quail. Full-day guided hunts are $270 per hunter and include either 6 pheasant or 15 quail.

Do you offer self-guided hunts?

Yes. Self-guided hunts are available for $180 per hunter and include either 5 pheasant or 12 quail.

Can we purchase additional birds?

Yes. Additional birds may be purchased for $30 per pheasant and $10 per quail.

Is lodging available?

Yes. Lodging is available for $45 per person per night and can accommodate groups of up to 15 guests. The lodge includes a full kitchen and plenty of space to relax after a day in the field.

Are meals provided?

Meals are not provided. The lodge includes a full kitchen for guests who would like to prepare their own meals. Bluestem is approximately five miles from Kingman, where additional dining options are available.

Is a deposit required to reserve a hunt?

Yes. A 50% deposit is required to reserve your hunt. Deposits are nonrefundable and are applied toward the final price of your hunt.

Cancellations made less than 72 hours before a scheduled hunt, or arriving with fewer hunters than originally reserved, may require payment of the full hunt price.

For cancellations made more than 72 hours in advance, the deposit is retained but may, at Bluestem's discretion, be applied toward a rescheduled hunt.

Does Bluestem offer deer hunts?

Deer hunts are available on a limited basis. Contact Scott directly for availability and additional information.
